1942年十月初，一份关于VK 45.03的研制计划出炉，有两家公司提供了各自的设计，一家是亨舍尔，另一家是保时捷。两家都使用了来自克虏伯公司的炮塔设计，主要的区别是车体，传动系统和悬挂装置。

亨舍尔的版本使用了常规的车体设计，车体沿用了和“黑豹”坦克类似的倾斜装甲布置。引擎后置，和“虎”I坦克类似，每侧有九个交错的负重轮，安装在横置的扭杆上，为了简化后勤维护,轮子的交叠方式和“虎”I坦克一样

亨舍尔公司最终赢得了合同，所有的“虎王”坦克都由该公司生产。车辆有两种炮塔设计。早期型号的炮塔因为最早被安装在保时捷的概念样车上，因此这种车也经常被叫做“保时捷炮塔”型。事实上，这里有一个误解，这种炮塔只是起初克虏伯设计的两种炮塔之一，这种炮塔前面呈圆弧形，炮塔两侧倾斜度比较大，为了安装指挥塔，炮塔左边侧面有一段弯曲的凸起，这使得生产非常困难，有五十辆车在亨舍尔生产的车体上安装了这样的炮塔。后来更常见的“生产型”炮塔，有时也称为“亨舍尔”炮塔，炮塔前面是平面，没有炮弹补充开口（早期的弧形炮塔上曾经使用过），倾斜度较小的炮塔可以正好容纳车长指挥塔，边缘不再需要突起了。

“虎王”底盘所使用的履带系统是相当独特的，交错使用有诱导齿的履带板和没有诱导齿的履带板（也就是俗称的“一公一母“的设计）当履带抓地力不足的时候，还可以使用防滑齿。

“虎王”坦克在战争后期才姗姗来迟，只生产了很少的数量，像其他德国坦克一样,它使用一台汽油引擎。然而，相同的引擎安装在更加轻的“黑豹”和“虎”I坦克上动力勉强算够用，用在“虎王”的确是有一点力不从心了,这和二战中其他的重型坦克情况有些类似，并且其高油耗导致行驶里程过短。

~ Suspension & Wheels ~
 ~ Suspension is made up of nine sets of overlapping 800mm road wheels per side.
~  drive sprocket wheel in Late type with authentic detail.
~  Idler wheel exhibit maximum detail w/separate armored covers.

 ~  Track~
~  Wider 800mm combat tracks, 105 links toothed track and 105 links flat track, including the spare tracks, they can be joined by 400 shafts, and accurately lined up and saged the result of link's weight. Of course are the workable track links, and the material is ABS plastic in burnt iron color, Intricate tank tracks come pre-assembled.
