The single-engine fighter-bomber Fiat G-91 was developed by the Italian aeronautical
company in the early 1950s. Designed by the renowned engineer Giuseppe Gabrielli,
it was characterized by an aerodynamic layout with swept wings and compact dimensions
that ensured significant in-flight maneuverability. Its good performance enabled the G-91
to win the NATO competition aimed at identifying a tactical support aircraft that was easy
to produce, yet versatile and flexible, capable of equipping the air units of member countries.
The Fiat G-91 was in fact employed by the Italian Air Force as well as by Germany and Portugal.
Armed, in the "R" version, with four 12.7 mm machine guns mounted in the nose, it could
carry an offensive payload of 700 kg on underwing pylons.
