DESCRIPTION
The need of a tank able to fight the Soviet T-34 forced the Germans to design
the tank destroyer Jagdpanther Sd.Kfz. 173 (Hunting Panther) based on the the
Pz.V Panther . It was equipped with an main armament more powerful than the
Panther tank, the famous 88 mm semi-automatic gun with a barrel length of 71
calibers, installed in the front glacis plate. It's projectile had a muzzle velocity of
1000 m/s, and at 1 km distance it pierced armor as thick as 100-200 mm. A total
of 415 Jagdpanthers were manufactured in 1944/45.
