美国陆军航空队在珍珠港袭击事件后，紧急调入了36架安装了普拉特·惠特尼发动机的DC-3。这些飞机中其中包含了在生产线上8架飞机和已经交付给了用户的28架, 而且在机内设备上也是各自不同，其中有三架只有十个位子的要员专机。另外有六架安装了普拉特·惠特尼发动机的DC-3作为C-52，有两架则赋予了C-68的编号。
